This is post five in my series about ways to use vintage brooches outside of just wearing them. I've covered necklaces, ribbon necklaces, head bands and hair combs - today's post is about using them as scarf tacks. Scarves are popular again this year (just look at all the pinterest posts for spring that include scarves!) and one way to punch them up a notch is to use vintage brooches.
Here is a diagram I liked from the blog Tiny Sparkly Things - http://tinysparklythings.blogspot.com/2012/02/diy-how-to-tiewear-scarf.html (hint, there are even more tying options on her blog!)
Heavy knotted scarves like this can hold up to a large brooch, where thinner, silky scarves would work best with smaller brooches. Think about things like adding butterfly, ladybug, dragonfly or spider brooches to your scarf for a bit of spring fun!
Here's a great example:
I like this example too, because it turns your scarf into a shawl, held together with a bright pop from a brooch!
Remember the next time you see a brooch - you can really wear this! It has endless possibilities!
Stay tuned for the next idea!
